Jason Wu named Woolmark ambassador
August 30, 2016
Just ahead of Jason Wu's New York fashion week show in September, the New York designer has been named an ambassador for The Woolmark Company.
A global authority on merino wool, Woolmark invited Wu to Australia recently were he visited a wool-producing property in Marulan, New South Wales. The designer will feature the natural fibre in his upcoming spring/summer 2017 collection next month.
“Merino wool has always played an integral role in my designs,” explained Wu. “Yet partnering with The Woolmark Company really allowed me to further explore and develop wool for summer. What my spring/summer 2017 collection does is push the boundaries with conventional seasons, creating year-round luxurious pieces, which I could achieve by working with wool.”
The high-profile partnership highlights Woolmark's push for merino wool to become the premier material for luxury apparel. The firm hopes the affiliation will also educate consumers on the benefits of the fibre, ultimately influencing their purchasing decisions.
"Jason’s meticulous attention to detail and innovative vision makes him a perfect partner to demonstrate the timelessness and versatility of Australian Merino wool," said The Woolmark Company managing director Stuart McCullough, in a statement.
Already affiliated with Woolmark, the designer sat on the judging panel of the International Woolmark Prize Australia regional final while in Australia.
