British Vogue has solo man on cover for first time as Chalamet stars
September 16, 2022
British Vogue’s cover star for its October issue is Timothée Chalamet, making it the first time in the magazine’s more than a century of history that it has had a solo man on the cover.
The female-focused glossy mag features the actor — a red carpet favourite in recent years — in two photos by Steven Meisel, who shot two alternative covers .
Editor-in-chief Edward Enninful (himself the first male editor of British Vogue, who also styled the shoot) said he’s wanted a man on the cover and was waiting “for the moment to feel right”.
He described Chalamet as a “man for everybody” and a “young actor at the peak of his career, who calls to mind the Deans and DiCaprio’s of past decades, but with a relationship to a new generation that dismantles old-fashioned nations of masculinity as a matter of course”.
It’s not the first time a Vogue edition has featured a solo man, however. Two years ago, US Vogue took that honour when it shot another celebrity fashion favourite, Harry Styles, for its cover.
The British October edition will be released next week.
